Sar Kheng forwards Sam Rainsy's request to Justice Ministry

     

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng received a letter from Sam Rainsy who called for the release of Meach Sovannara, head of CNRP's information and media department, and will send the letter to the Ministry of Justice, a senior official said Friday.

"H.E Deputy Prime Minister [Sar Kheng] will send Sam Rainsy’s letter to the Ministry of Justice for consideration," Interior Minister spokesman Khieu Sopheak told The Cambodia Herald.

Meach Sovannara, CNRP's lawmaker candidate in Banteay Meanchey, was arrested on Tuesday. Police read a court warrant before his arrest.

He was charged with involvement in leading an insurrection over a violent clash during a CNRP's protest on July 15 near the Freedom Park.
